Today in Black History: Sgt. William H. Carney

May 23Sgt. William H. Carney, a leader in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteers Regiment who charged on Fort Wagner in the Civil War, received the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery on this date in 1900.
