Negotiate vs Capitulate

Republican FailureOne faction of the Republican Party, which is in control of 1/2 of 1/3 of the United States, has shut down the entire United States government and is holding the American People hostage just so they can illegally circumvent implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare”.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner (R-OH), and other far-right-wing Republicans keep insisting that President Obama is “not negotiating” with them. What they are conveniently forgetting is that they are DEMANDING that the ACA be defunded or they will continue to defund the entire U.S. government.

What the Republicans really want the President to do is not to “negotiate” with them, but to capitulate to them: give them everything they want while not giving up, giving in, or compromising on anything else for the good of the American people.

Since 2009, the President has tried to work with the Republican Party–compromise is an important part of governing. But now Mr. Obama is through with “negotiating”, and most certainly is not going to capitulate, not on the government shut down, and not on the upcoming debt ceiling debate.

Not this time. No more.

The sooner the Republicans understand the difference between negotiating and capitulating, the sooner the government can re-open.
