Nat King Cole who, in the forties, became the first black performer to have his own regular radio show and in the fifties became the first to have his own regular TV show. He gained acceptance with all sections of the community in all countries of the world and did more to further the progress

* Jean Baptist Pointe Du Sable, a trader and fur trapper, founded Chicago, Illinois. * Marian Wright-Edelman, activist and founder of the Children’s Defense Fund, was born in Bennettesville, SC in 1939. * James Meredith, the first Black graduate of the University of Mississippi, was shot in 1966 while registering Black voters in Mississippi.
